Why a broad offer beats a narrow one in the building safety world we work in today.
The usual advice in this game is to specialise. Pick one thing, stay in your lane, and do not stretch yourself. I went the other way on purpose, and I would do it again tomorrow.
Spectra covers asbestos, fire protection, land remediation, thermal insulation, and specialist construction work. That was a deliberate decision, not an accident, and it was not about doing a bit of everything badly. Staying in one narrow lane limits your growth, your resilience, and, frankly, the value you can give a client in the world we work in now.
Here is what I see on the ground. Clients want integrated solutions. They do not want a different firm for every problem in the same building, chasing five contractors and hoping they talk to each other. They want to sit down with one outfit that can deal with the whole picture, from asbestos to fire protection, and own it. We give them that.
And it is good business. I am not going to pretend otherwise. A wider offer means we get revenue stability and a clear idea of where we are heading, and the client gets joined up delivery. Both sides win. It only works if the depth is real in every single discipline, mind. We do not treat anything as a bolt-on. Done properly, breadth is not spreading yourself thin. It is being the one partner a client can actually rely on to sort the lot.
