Compounds & Haul Roads – New Build Development, Ipswich

Enabling Works
Enabling Works

Project Overview:

Spectra was contracted to construct 2.1 km of haul roads and the related site compounds for a major new housing project near an active Network Rail line. This phase was vital because it created safe and robust access routes for the subsequent installation of vehicular and pedestrian bridges.

Approach & Delivery:

The haul roads were constructed with a width of 4 meters and a depth of 640mm, ensuring durable access on both sides of the railway. Additionally, Spectra erected four temporary compounds, each fitted with pile mats to support crane operations for bridge installation and heavy lifting.

In addition to the main access routes, the project included installing Heras-on-post tree protection systems, secure access gates, and noise reduction screens to safeguard the environment and meet local regulations. All activities were carefully coordinated to keep the project on schedule and minimise disruptions to the surrounding area.

Outcome:

The project was completed within the scheduled six-week timeline and remained within budget. The infrastructure provided guaranteed the client safe, reliable, and fully compliant access routes, enabling the wider development to proceed without delays.
