Project Overview:

Spectra was tasked with performing thorough asbestos removal in key areas of Mount Grace School, including the boiler room, plant room, and undercroft. The project required detailed planning, the use of specialised removal techniques, and rigorous safety protocols to safeguard staff, students, and contractors on site.

Approach & Delivery:

In the boiler and plant rooms, Spectra safely removed asbestos-containing thermal insulation under strict controlled conditions. The process involved using both injection and quill-blasting methods to carefully extract residues from pipes and unused equipment. All related plant parts and pipes were then properly disposed of following regulatory standards. The undercroft posed extra challenges because of limited access and confined-space risks. Our team applied specific risk controls and continuous atmospheric monitoring to ensure safe entry. All contaminated soil and thermal insulation debris were excavated to the underlying clay layer, resulting in a clean area that meets all safety standards for future use.

Outcome:

The project was finished on time and upheld strict safety standards. During an unplanned inspection, the Health and Safety Executive audited the site and noted exceptional compliance with safety protocols — demonstrating Spectra’s careful planning and expert implementation.
