Spectra were tasked with conducting yearly asbestos reinspection surveys at JCB’s World Headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire—an extensive and complex manufacturing site with multiple buildings and operational zones. This reinspection program is part of JCB’s continuous obligation to manage asbestos under CAR 2012, ensuring all known asbestos-containing materials across the site are regularly inspected, documented, and properly managed.
Approach & Delivery:
Our surveyors systematically rechecked all previously identified asbestos-containing materials across the site. They assessed each item’s condition, accessibility, and any changes since the last inspection. Each material was evaluated based on current HSG 264 guidelines, updating condition scores and noting any deterioration or disturbance. The inspections were carefully scheduled around the site’s active manufacturing operations, with phased work to prevent disruption to production and ensure safe access. All observations were documented in an updated asbestos register, which includes clear recommendations for materials needing remedial action or further management.
Outcome:
The reinspection surveys were finished within the one-week schedule, providing an up-to-date, fully compliant asbestos register for the site. JCB’s estates and facilities team received a straightforward, actionable report highlighting material conditions and priority items for follow-up, aiding informed decision-making for ongoing site management. The programme confirms the client’s duty to manage responsibilities are fulfilled and ensures all personnel working on-site have access to accurate, current asbestos information.
